PERRIN, ANTOINE, royal court officer; son of Jacques Perrin, notary and tabellion of the parish of Saint-Pierre de Monastier (Le Puy-en-Velay), and of Catherine Boissières; baptized 1697; d. c. 1738, probably at Montreal.
Perrin perhaps came to Canada as a soldier; at least that is what he was in 1719 when he received a commission as “process-server within the jurisdiction of Montreal.” Intendant Bégon* wrote of him, in his letter of 26 Oct. 1722, that “he is well intentioned but not very capable; inclined to drink.”
On 25 June 1720, he married Marie-Anne Chotard, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Chotard and Marie-Catherine Fortin of Lachine. They had seven children. As a marriage settlement Perrin gave her 400 livres, and Jean-Baptiste Chotard undertook to provide a small dowry for his daughter. A few years later, Perrin gave proof of his common sense when on 16 March 1729 he withdrew “the criminal suit brought by him” against the blacksmith François Jobin, who had “insulted and struck” him, and agreed to forget the insult on payment of 60 livres.
Perrin died probably in or around 1738, the last year during which he discharged his duties as court officer; his wife married again in 1741, her second husband being Jacques Rondort.
