Treaty of Paris of 1783

The Treaty of Paris of 1783 ended the American revolution and initiated a rearrangement of British North America, made necessary by the loss of the Thirteen Colonies. Among other transformations, the Ohio country, which had been a part of the Province of Quebec, was ceded to the United States, and Prince Edward Island’s government was made nominally dependent on that of Nova Scotia. The demarcation of the American border with New Brunswick and Lower Canada became a bone of contention, since it had been defined broadly by the Treaty of Paris.
