Ogdensburg Agreement (1940)

During the Second World War Canada’s relations with the United States became anomalous. After the fall of France in 1940 the American president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, sent Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King an invitation that would lead to the signing of the Ogdensburg Agreement, which established a joint board to study continental defence. It was known as the Permanent Joint Board of Defence.
