Invasion of Normandy (1944)

The Normandy landings in June 1944 launched the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France. Despite the success of the landings, the campaign to break the German hold on Normandy developed slowly. At home in Canada the issue of conscription received little attention until heavy Canadian casualties were sustained after the invasion of Normandy.
