Battle of Courcelette (1916)

During the First World War the Canadian Corps arrived on the Somme, in France, in early September 1916. They won a limited, although well-publicized, victory at Courcelette on the 15th of that month. But the fighting that followed was of a grinding nature: each side attacked and counter-attacked over the same ruined landscape.
