After the peace negotiations and treaty of 1645–46, there was only a brief respite in the conflict between the Huron (Wendat) and the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee). The Huron were attacked repeatedly by their enemies, in particular the Mohawk and Seneca, until, in 1649, their country was completely devastated. The destruction of Huronia finally ended the Huron–Iroquois struggle; complicated peace negotiations followed, and a treaty was signed on 13 Dec. 1665.
