Hart Memorial Trophy

In 1923 David Hart, a Montreal physician, donated a trophy to the National Hockey League to be awarded annually to the player most valuable to his team during the regular season: the Hart Memorial Trophy. Howie Morenz won it three times – in 1928, 1931, and 1932. In the 1980s Wayne Gretzky set a record by winning it nine times, of which eight were consecutive.
