GODET, ROLLAND, soldier, notary and clerk of court 1651–53.
In 1651 Governor Jean de Lauson had created at Quebec a seneschal’s court of justice. Godet was its first notary, and in addition functioned as its clerk. Between 16 Jan. 1652 and 23 June 1653 he received 19 acts. This “soldat notaire,” as he was styled by the Jesuit de Quen, may also have been the secretary of the governor, but we have found no document confirming this assertion, made by the archivist of the province of Quebec. It is not known where Godet came from and what became of him after the month of June 1653.
